Alex & Siwa

Alright, here i am again,
just came from the hospital. finally got an injection against my pain in my knee and calf.
What happened ? ..... It all started on the journey to cairo... i kinda twisted my kneejoint.
It was pretty painful but the pain faded away... at least i thought so... on the trip to Siwa which was like 9h mz leg started swelling and got pretty painful again. Diagnosis : Myositis ...

Well i hope & guess i\ll be fine soon. Really want to take part in the trip to Luxor and Assuan next Weekend.

So back to Alexandria and Luxor.
The first 5 pictures are taken in Alex. It very beautiful and the climate much comfortable since its located at the mediteranien sea. our hotel was directly at the coast .. picture number 4 was taken right from our hotel room. It was an amazing view... the picture doesn=t even tell half of the beauty . So after a long journey to Siwa i had to stay in the hotel cuz my leg was pretty swollen. The next day we made the Safari. We went to some cold & hot springs in the middle of the desert (look at the pictures). And ya we had a full night in the desert... it was really fun and the first time i was glad a had warm clothes with me :)

Ok the next day we wanted to leave from Siwa at around 3 but if something is planned here in egypt u can be sure it will take at least 1-2 hours longer than calculated. So we left quite late and in the middle of the desert our Bus broke down. So we had to wait until another bus arrived .... and ya .... it took a long time ..... it felt like 10 hours eventhough it was probably only 2.

We finally arrived in alexandria at around 3 or 4 o clock at night ... dont really remember i was way to tired.... actually it was planned that we arrive during the evening the day before ... so everbody was extremly exhausted ... and we still had our trip back to Mansoura... well we took a cab the driver stopped in the midle of nowhere 4 a prayer. so we finally arrived in Mansoura the next morning at around 8.... for a 4 hour taxi drive we payed 2 euros each ... so 10 euros :D

Well that enough for now ... here some short description to the pictures

Cairo & Sharm el Sheikh Trip

Hey, here are 20 out of ca 900 pictures from our Trip to Cairo and Sharm el Sheikh.
Our Trip started last week Wednesday. After our training in the hospital we left towards Cairo.
It took aprox. 3 hours until we arrived at our Hotel where we stayed for one night.
The first pictures u see are taken from the Cairo Tower which is on a island in the middle of the Nile. A very beautiful view... i had to cut down the quality of the pictures a bit because the internet is crazy slow here, i´ll upload the big ones when i´ll be back in Germany. We were witnesses seeing a Moon-rise over Cairo .... stunning

After that we went to eat Kushari (i hope thats how u write it) a traditional food here.
Rice with Pasta some tomato-meat sauce, dry onions and some other stuff.... (picture next time).

The next day we were riding on camels to the Pyramids .... that was for sure one of the highlights here in Egypt so far. Eventhough it was insanely hot, the beautiful view and camel-ride made it more than worthy. After that we went to the Egyptian Museum ... unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures ... so i can only recommend u to see it yourself :)

Close to the museum were 2 huge mosques ... again very beautiful took many pictures, coming soon =) here are two of them .... once me sitting in a mosque and another with 2 guys sleeping..
its a really interesting atmosphere in there.... very peaceful & relaxing .....

At night we had to leave to Sharm el Sheikh (its on the asian part of Egypt / Sinai).... aprox. 9 hours .... fortunately we had an air conditioning system in the bus ... arriving at Sharm in the early morning i was quite shocked ...
having like 45 degrees at 8 o´clock is impossible to explain by words.

Sharm is a diving paradise so we went for a diving lesson the other day.
Another experience i´m glad i had the chance to make.
Some pictures u´ll find at the bottom of my posts.

further plans :

tomorrow we will leave to Siwa, a Oasis in the middle of the desert. There is going to be a huge meeting of all the incoming exchange students from all over the world.
On our way back we´ll have one day in Alexandria... so more picture to come... stay tuned ;)

Alright thats it for today,
2 weeks to go :) , see you soon

Chris

The next days

So just uploaded a few pictures.... have many many more, i´ll upload them to flickr soon and give u the link....

Last Sunday was my first day in the clinic of the Nephrology & Urology....
Its the most famous and best Hospital here in Africa. Only the best of the best doctors work here.
Inside you would never think of being in a thrid world country. Top hygiene, MRI, CT, XR, US, etc.
Everything works and people are a bit more reliable.

The teachers are brilliant so far, everyday we see something else and we get really involved into the daily hospital life. We talk about the "hot" cases , go through differential diagnoses and treatment possibilities. The doctors seem to like to test our knowledge and always ask us what we would do ... its seriously the best clinical experience i´ve had so far.

Tomorrow we´ll go to Cairo and finally see the pyramids & the egyptian museum.
Really looking forward to that. Our contact persons really take good care of us and planned a very extensive social programm. During the next weeks we´ll also go to Alexandria , Sharm el Sheikh, Luxor, Assuan and to some Oasis in the middle of the desert.

I´ll try to update this blog more rgularly now since i´ve finally found a internet cafe with a normal internet connection...

To sum it up : I feel very great, and i´m really looking forward to the next days & weeks.
I´ve seen things i wouldn´t even imagine to dream and i´m sure Egypt was a very good choice for ma exchange programm.

Take care, Chris
